Social Justice

We acknowledge racism as a widespread system of disproportionate opportunity and penalties based on skin color that exists throughout our society. Anti-racism challenges the status-quo and acts to change policies, behaviors, and beliefs that perpetuate racist ideas and actions.

• Sun Ridge grounds assessment and treatment within the framework of social justice. We address diversity, equity, inclusion, and intersectionality and stand as an anti-racist provider.

• Diversity involves recognizing and valuing differences such as ethnicity, gender, age, race, religion, disability, and sexual orientation.
• Equity involves fair and just inclusion. Each person has different circumstances, which requires distributing resources and opportunities to help achieve equal outcomes.
• Inclusion is about providing equal access to opportunities and resources to those who might otherwise be excluded or marginalized in seeking effective health services.
• Intersectionality is a framework to understand how social and political identities create differences in privilege. Health is shaped by many factors that intersect, such as race, class, income, education, age, ability, sexual orientation, immigration status, ethnicity, indigeneity, and location.
